Brisket whisperer and legendary line generator Aaron Franklin took home the title of Best Chef: Southwest at last night's James Beard Awards. Perhaps the first pitmaster to ever be nominated in the category, Franklin's win caps off a banner spring including his cookbook's release, TV appearances, mobbed pop-ups and, oh yeah, his own TV show.
Franklin joins Paul Qui and Tyson Cole as recent winners from Austin in this category. Odd Duck and Barley Swine's Bryce Gilmore was also a finalist for the third year in a row. Check out the full list of winners and Aaron Franklin in a tux:
