Austin’s drinking scene has never been better, with numerous bars offering absolutely great boozy beverages, from cocktails to beer to wine. With that in mind, Eater is highlighting the city’s best all-around bars, those establishments that serve stellar mixed drinks, as well as excellent beer and/or wine selections, so there’s a libation for every preference.

Veracruz Fonda and Bar

Fantastic taco truck Veracruz All Natural opened up this Mueller Mexican restaurant, where it was able to expand into alcohol. This means a great cocktail list, many with agave spirits; a short but well curated wine list — including options from Chile; and beers that are local, domestic, and, yes, from Mexico. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in services.

The campus dive bar is the place to nurse a beer or mixed drink (including mezcal mules) while watching a live show. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas.

Even under new ownership, the Central East Austin bar still offers a potent frozen Bee’s Knees cocktail, alongside non-frozen cocktails, beers, wines, and a great mezcal selection. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas.

The newly crowned Eater Austin’s best new bar of 2023 in East Austin serves up a well-rounded drinks menu. There are all sorts of cocktails, from very casual to fancy, as well as thoughtful wines and beer options. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in services.

The Little Darlin'

Far South Austin’s bar paradise can be found with Little Darlin’. There are rotating frozen cocktails, well drinks, and plenty of beers, including the locally focused draft list. There are indoor and outdoor dine-in areas.
