Although Rosedale cheese shop Spread & Co. closed its original location earlier this spring, the cafe reopened at a new address this fall. The relocated Spread & Co. is found in Cherrywood at 2406 Manor Road, Suite B — taking over what had been Lola’s Donuts — as of October 15.
The new location works as a cheese and coffee shop with daytime foods like sandwiches for breakfast and lunch (egg/prosciutto cotto/gruyere cheese/maple dijonnaise made on an English muffin from Texas French Bread; smoked salmon tartines; grilled cheeses with aged cheddar, gruyere, and raclette; cold cuts; etc.), boards (cheese/charcuterie, tinned fish), pastries, salads, and snacks. There are to-go foods like wrapped cheeses (domestic and international), boards, and house-made items like jams, pickles, hot sauce, dips, salts, olive oils, caviar, chocolate, cookie dough, and bread. The new space also offers more wines, aperitifs, nonalcoholic drinks, and beer, alongside teas and coffees. It also sells vintage serving ware. Scope out the full menu below
Physically, the new Spread has a pickup window and a casual indoor space for dining in. The cafe is found between Cajun restaurant Vic and Al’s and New Texan restaurant Dai Due.
Co-owner Rosemary Ewald started Spread as a grazing board company in 2016. And then, with her husband chef Austin Ewald, the two opened the cafe at West 38th Street in October 2019. They expanded with a satellite location within Contemporary Austin’s sculpture garden Laguna Gloria in Tarrytown in 2021 (which remains open). The couple closed the original cafe in May, to reopen elsewhere and refocus on cheeses and house-made foods.
The Manor Road suite had previously been doughnut shop Lola’s Donuts, run by Sugar Mama’s Bakeshop’s Olivia O’Neal. It ran from 2020 to the beginning of 2022, and then, for a bit had been offering wholesale and catering orders under a different unknown owner. Then it seemed to close slowly at some point.
The Cherrywood Spread & Co.’s kitchen hours are from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily, with takeout boards and foods served through 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
