The *big switch* to biodegradable & compostable packaging
Our brand new eco-packaging will break down the same as organic waste, leaving no harmful chemicals behind. Simply toss your case's packaging in your home compost or recycling bin and it will be broken down in just 12 months (compare that to the 450 YEARS that single-use plastic takes).
In an effort to avoid waste, we will not be re-packaging already packaged products, so you still might receive a non-compostable box or mailer in your order. If this is the case, be sure not to add it to your compost. Instead, place it in your recycling bin! The big switch takes time, so we appreciate your patience with us.
Carbon Neutrality
We are a carbon neutral company.
Carbon neutral company: this means that we have calculated our greenhouse gas emissions, are continuously reducing them and offset unavoidable emissions through carbon offset projects.
Our steps in detail
1. Calculate carbon emissions
Together with ClimatePartner we have calculated our CCF – Corporate Carbon Footprint. This includes emissions from sources such as energy and heating, business travel, office supplies and everything else that we use in the operation of our company.
2. Avoid and reduce emissions
Our CCF calculation shows us where we need to reduce our carbon emissions. We update it every year to monitor our progress and identify additional areas for improvement. Steps we are taking now to reduce our carbon emissions include using 50% recycled TPU materials to produce our products, as well as printing with dyes thats are non-hazardous, non-toxic, and eco-friendly. Additionally, we have begun transitioning all of our new products to an eco-packaging that is biodegradable and compostable.
3. Carbon offset
For the time being, some emissions remain unavoidable. We offset them by supporting the projects from the ClimatePartner portfolio: Clean drinking water (Kono, Sierra Leone), Regional Tree Planting + Carbon Offset (Germany), Wind Energy (Brazil), and Solar Energy (Morocco).
4. Create transparency
Via our label stating "carbon neutral company" and the ID, you can track our carbon neutrality through the ClimatePartner ID tracking tool: www.climatepartner.com/18577-2203-1001
As well as the avoidance and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, offsetting is a vital step in climate action. Without offsetting, the 1.5-degree target of the Paris Convention is not achievable at present – we do not yet have the necessary technologies to reduce all emissions drastically enough to meet this target. Investing in carbon offset projects also promotes sustainable development in the Southern hemisphere, so that economic progress is not dictated by investment in and use of fossil fuels.
Our carbon offset project
As a carbon neutral company, we have supported the following carbon offset projects:
Clean drinking water (Kono, Sierra Leone), Regional Tree Planting + Carbon Offset (Germany), Wind Energy (Brazil), and Solar Energy (Morocco)
By investing in these projects, we also support the realization of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals, such as the fight against poverty or the improvement of living conditions in emerging and developing countries.
